A positive attitude to physical activity begins in the early years and can set a child up for a healthy and active life.

We are the proud recipients of the Gold Kitemark for Sport; an achievement we are extremely proud of.

We plan carefully, to offer children a wide range of active experiences, developing skills in an enjoyable way and with a sense of purpose and achievement. Sport and competitive games allow children to interact socially, developing teamwork and resilience.

Children have two hours of P.E. within their weekly timetable. The focus for activities changes termly; including Gymnastics and Dance, Athletics, Indoor and Outdoor team games. After-School Clubs and Team training sessions extend the activities on offer.

Not only are we well-resourced, with high-quality sports equipment, our new school site gives children access to a multi-purpose Sports Hall, an astroturf pitch and extensive fields. These facilites are hugely beneficial for both P.E. lessons, team training sessions and after-school clubs.

St Francis has excellent links with local sports clubs and experienced coaches, who run training sessions to share their expertise.

Swimming lessons in Year Three are held at The Heights, Sandown and in Year Six children have the chance to consolidate their skills with further swimming sessions, before they move on to Secondary School.

St Francis Primary encourages and celebrates success in sport. Team photos and trophies are prominently displayed and competition results are included in the weekly newsletter. We like to keep everyone updated with a termly Sports newsletter, outlining the latest activities on offer and looking ahead to forthcoming fixtures.

Children especially look forward to Sports Day in the Summer Term. Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 have their own special event which combines fun and competition. We welcome families along to share the day and it rounds off  an exciting year of physical activity at St Francis which we hope spills over into children’s lives out of school.
